Physical Education Overview Russell Scott Primary School
We believe Russell Scott Primary School has been visionary in the delivery of sport and movement and dance in school for many years providing opportunities for young people to actively become involved and coached in over 9 sports. This has been clearly evident in the levels of participation in after school clubs and inters school competitions. The school through its coaches, PE coordinator and staff have been able to create valuable relationships with local sports clubs in sharing their facilities or providing the opportunity to become members of their clubs.
To date we have entered following competitions:
Tag Rugby: Denton Community College – Denton Champions.
Tameside Comp – Champions (representing Tameside in Grtr Mc Games)
Off The Blocks – Athletics: Denton Community College – Denton Champions
Tameside Competition – Champions (lowest ever total points; highest number of individual winners)
Volleyball: Tameside Comp – Heats (2013 Champions)
Cross Country: Tameside Cross Country championships attending 4 events with individual winners and top ten finishers.
Cricket: (RS has represented Tameside for the past 10years and have been national champions .
It is worth noting that the dedication of the staff who support and transport the children in the competitions is highly commendable and it wouldn’t be possible to achieve at this level without their support and encouragement.
Barriers during 2014
The main barrier has been the inability to deliver after school clubs on Denton South site due to the logistics of travel arrangements until March 2014. Now the system of transport is established we are undertaking a review of parents who are willing to collect their children from Denton South site to re-commence delivery.
Over the past 24 months through our sports coach lead provider and PE coordinator we have established positive partnerships with the following groups:
Denton Cricket Club; Denton St Lawrence Cricket Club; Lancashire County Cricket Club;
Denton Youth Football Club; New Charter Housing Trust; Manchester United Foundation
Some of the benefits of these partnerships has seen additional free speciality coaching in school and after school, use of facilities for tournaments and holiday clubs and joint projects to engage young people in holiday clubs.
